Question QUESTION: First, thank you for taking the time for reading and considering my question. I'm redoing the pine floor in my laundry room which is original wood in this 115 year old house. I've done several things with linseed oil and was really pleased with the outcome. I was wondering if I could use it on the floor the use something for a topcoat;if so, what should I use? It's a fairly high traffic area housing the back door. Thank you for your time,
Steven
ANSWER: Steven,
Linseed Oil is a very good wood treatment but is too soft for flooring.
A better solution is Tung oil, such as Teak oil or Danish oil you could go for specialist floor varnishes but these are difficult to apply.
Hope this helps
Regards,
Tony

QUESTION: Would the Tung oil need to be all that I apply or should I use something else as a topcoat? Also (sorry about the add-in question with a reply) what would be a good filler for any of the cracks?? With the flooring being so old, some of the boards don't fit together snug.
Thanks again,
Steven
Answer Steven,
The tung oil is the finish, if you wish to apply specialist floor varnish do NOT use oil beneath.
Clam Brummer filler in various shades are excellent for wood filling, I should think these are easily available on the Internet.
