Question I am getting ready to paint my living room. However, on one of the walls, the paint is peeling off. Probably from settling of the house. My question is, what do I need to do to get the wall ready. I know the first thing would to scrape off the peeling paint. What do I need to do now? Please, if you could be very specific, as I have no ideal what I need to do and buy. Thank you, Diane
Answer Diane,
It is hard to be specific, without seeing the problem 'in the flesh'
You say the peeling may be due to settling, I don't understand, settling would induce cracks and splits but not peeling in my experience.
Therefore you really have to establish why this is. remove all loose and suspect material and finely sandpaper a small area then apply a thin coat of a latex paint. When dry test with adhesive tape and should the paint easily come off you will probably need a primer sealer.
My favourite primers are made by Zinsser (easily available on the Internet) They have several primer sealers that act like double sided tape adhering to the substrate and making a sound base for your preferred finish.
