Question The molding around my basement door is flaking off. What's the easiest way of removing what's left of it and what's the best way to re-paint? Primer? Oil-based vs water-based primer/paint?

There are several paint strippers on the market, and the new environmentally friendly water based products are easily available on the Internet.
As to primer if the area is subject to high humidity I would favour an oil based primer, although the acrylic primer undercoats available now are fairly sophisticated.
