Experience I began as a decorative painter/artist 15 years ago. My work has appeared in magazines from award winning designer show houses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania and Architectural Digest. Most recently I have spent the last 3 years creating, developing and patenting a numerical color selection system that takes the subjective nature out of color. Since it is numerically based, color can be chosen quickly and accurately. For the past year, I have conducted training seminars for the "Color with No Regrets" System to decorating professionals around the United States. My background in decorative painting/art, has given me real life experience of how color works but more importantly why it works based on sound color principles. I am also an authorized Aqua Finishing Solutions Distributor and a certified training instructor for the Society of Decorating Professionals.

Question We are building and I'm stumped with paint color for kitchen. I'd like to do cherry cabinets and I've picked out santa cecilia granite for countertop. I like color but think the golds that match the countertop are just too much yellow. Ideas for color?? Thanks
Answer Hi Sue,
You could use a blue-green, blue-gray or even deep rich red. So much will depend on how deep the finish is on your cherry cabinets. If they're on the lighter side, a red would be nice...if they are deep, the blue-green or even green would be nice. Also depending upon your lighting (and again how deep your cabinets are, you could even use a charcoal gray if the cabinets are a light or natural cherry. I know that probably sounds pretty dramatic but kitchens generally don't have much wall space so you can go deeper and stronger in color if you have good task and natural lighting. Your granite has a lot of grays in it to pull colors from.
The yellows and yellow-golds are tough to pull from. You have to find the just the right color. You could always send me a sample of your granite and I could help you with that or I teach a color program around the United States called Color with No Regrets. If you want to send me an email, I can let you know if there is a color consultant in your area.
I hope this helps you. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for asking.
