Question What kind of visual dynamics those it create to paint one wall a different color from the rest other than just interest? Does it tend to make the room bigger or smaller? A friend has painted three a light gray and then one almost a periwinkle navy and I am thinking it is making the room feel smaller or else I just don't like the two colors together. Any thoughts. Isn't there some psychological reason for doing that technique like mirrors in a room to try and make it feel bigger?
Answer Ruby,
This is not my area of expertise as I am not a designer.
However 40 years in the paint industry has given me some ideas as to how the designer works.
You touch upon some of the major theories which are darker colours bring a surface closer and visa versa.
Colours can be contrasting or blending and feature walls can be very effective.
Sorry to be so vague but I hope this helps somewhat.
