Question Please could you advise the correct paint and method to paint a wooden fire mantelpiece. certain areas that are immediately above the fire get very hot when gas fire is on. Current paint has bubbled and cracked.
Answer John,
You will require a paint that resists heat , there are several products available, if you check out the Internet for Rustins or Blackfriars. Although there are products that resist up to 1250%F there are many ranges between normal paint and the high grade heat resistant paints.
Obviously you will have to remove any loose or flaking material and apply a suitable wood primer (this does not have necessarily to be heat resistant).
