Painting & Wallpapering/Tone down red paint

Question
I sponged an 8inch border around my sons room. Its too bright of a red. What color can I sponge on top of it to tone down the brightness?

Answer
Traci.

Colour is a little out of my expertise as I am not a designer.

However 40 years on the technical side of paints have given me a little
knowledge of the components of colours.

When dealing with reds we can nullify brightness by introducing a brown tone ether with ochre or burnt sienna stains.

So if I was faced with a similar problem I would sponge a very light brown see through coat on top, but I stress this is not my area of expertise.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Tony.
