Question Hi Tony.,
I am from Ontario, Canada, and I was wondering if you know of a type of paint, or tintable primer that I could use to paint directly over pine tongue and groove without the bother of sanding first? All I want is to brighten up my old country kitchen. To do any tearing down or covering up with drywall is not an option as the kitchen is huge and chopped up with windows, doors, cupboards etc. Please, any advice would be truly appreciated. I am basically looking for a paint with decent coverage. A little bit of knots bleeding through the paint is acceptable, as I like the cottage/country/old antique look.
Thank-you so much for any advice you may have.,
Carrie :)

You will require a barrier primer, which I rely on a great deal.
My favourite primers are made by Zinsser (easily available on the Internet) also they are tintable. They have several primer sealers that act like double sided tape adhering to the substrate and making a sound base for your preferred finish. I have known several clients using them as a finish in particular their BIN primer which is shellac based and will hold any resin from knots.
