Question hi i have 2 bedrooms that are wood walls from the 70s or before there not panneling it real wood put on the walls in kinda light a plank i dont know how to describe it.it was a attick converted i guess.well anyways its real wood.has a shine to it maybe polyurifance on it not sure.i want to paint over it its cheaper than drywalling it.i know i have to prime really good so the wood dont bleed threw but here the problem i have some contractors saying u need to sand the surface cause of the shine or the coating on it.then another contractor saying no u dont hes trying to spend ur money.he says he uses killz primer so u dont have to sand and he will guarentee no peeling of the paint for 2years what do u suggest,and what kind of paint dou recomend4 wood,satin,flat eggshell ect thank u

Actually they are both right, because you are looking to KEY the surface coating.
Sanding is labour intensive and will cost more than a barrier coating such as Killz.
My favourite primers are made by Zinsser (easily available on the Internet) They have several primer sealers that act like double sided tape adhering to the substrate and making a sound base for your preferred finish.
Once applied you can use any finish you like Satin, Eggshell or even water based emulsion Matt Or Silk.
