Painting & Wallpapering/accent wall

Question
how do you choose which wall to be your accent wall. Should it be a solid wall, or one with windows or doors. Should it be the largest wall or the smallest wall? I would love to do one in my living room but I have no clue how to choose the wall.

Answer
Hi Diana
There are no set rules for accents walls. However, the accent wall must be a wall you want to serve as a focal point. When choosing the wall, ask yourself: “where do I want the eye to go first?” If the wall already has a focal point, such as a fireplace, an accent color can reinforce that part of the room. Even a small fireplace can be made more important by painting the wall around it a bold color. If the wall has a huge window and not much wall, it could be used as a focal point if there is a spectacular view, then the accent color must frame the view. The accent wall should anchor the room and if there is no natural focal point, it will become one. And accent wall is more than just paint: it often has a painting, sculpture, or even a floor vase filled with bare branches. An important piece of furniture often is part of the accent wall: sectional sofa, armoire, a bed, or a desk with large mirror over it. I hope this answers some of your questions.
