Painting & Wallpapering - What colors work with sage green carpet?

Question
hi we are buying a new house....it was built in 2005 so it is very new. The walls and trim are bright white with pewter/silver cabinet pulls and hardwear and a slate gray fire place mantle. The ceilings are all vaulted so the house feels very open and airy. The cabinets are are a medium oak color.(important since it is a fairly open floor plan) The carpet throughout is a very light sage green color. What colors compliment the white and sage green? Right now i sort of decorate in country....like navy burgandy and forrest green (this is what my couches are) These in my opinion would look awful in this newer looking home with all the clean lines. I was thinking of putting surefit slipcovers on them? Which color? I was thinking a kahki color? I also own quite a bit of items with wrought iron which i think would look nice. BUT i need a sort of color palate that would compliment this carpet color with all the white on the walls. White or wood coffee table? What about curtains? Sheer and light sage? HELP!

Answer
Hello Erika,
Kahki or a taupe color slipcover would be fine for your couches.  This way you could add color with your accessories.  Plums, creams, taupes, beiges, and even a butterscotch would look nice in your home.  If you already have a lot of country items, you could switch a little and decorate in more of a French Country look.  That would be colors like sage green, butterscotch yellows, a little burgundy maybe, creams, etc. You could also still use your wrought iron for this look.  Your curtains really depend on what look your wanting and if your wanting a lot of natural light or a little.  Either sheer or light sage would look nice.  I would maybe go with a light sage look, especially if you go with a French country look.  Same with a coffee table.  French country I would maybe go with a white one, but it really depends on the look your wanting.  Hope this helps! Best of luck on your new home!
