Subject: Data transfer from Palm Z22 to old Clie

Question
QUESTION: Hi, Brent,
I've had a Palm Z22 for about 18 months, but have been finding the onscreen keyboard unresponsive and a bit annoying to use.  I've just purchased a used Sony Clie PEG-TG50 (it's the keyboard I'm after!)complete with all cradles, cables, and software - but I haven't a clue how to sync all my Z22 info to the Clie.  I use Windows XP on my computer.  Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much,
Elizabeth

ANSWER: Hi Elizabeth,

Congratulations. Yeah the TG-50 is one of my all time favorite devices. The simplest way to transfer the date from the Z22 of course is simply to beam the data to from your Z22 to the TG-50.

You can also simply attach the cradle and usb to the computer - access the hotsync icon in your toolbar, right click it > select "Custom" and choose the applications you want to sync (of course avoiding those applications which are not on your Clie and choosing the, "do nothing" option for those) and then sync it. After you get the data you want , then install the Sony Sync software

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Thank you, Brent - All data is transferred as per your good suggestions!  But, if I may, here's another thing that's got me bugged:  How do I send pictures that are on my computer over to the Clie?  I've tried putting them in the program file "SonyHandheld\add-on," but when I hotsync, the Clie doesn't pick them up.  Wrong approach?
Thanks again, Elizabeth

Answer
It sounds like you may be having issues with the, "Image Converter" software that came with the installation disc - which is usually pretty reliable. If you aren't using it, install it.

If that is the application that is giving you trouble then you can try using the Data Import/Export application that came with the installation disc. The Data Export installs an icon of the same on your PC, the import is on your Clie. You need to have your handheld connected to your pc and launch the application on both your PC and your handheld. You can then drag and drop the pictures on to the Import/Export application and then install it to your handheld. The application basically turns your handheld into a card reader. The same process works for about anything, MP3's, Word or Excel documents - its great and because you got a Sony Clie it came with the device as opposed to a Palm device where you would have to buy two separate applications to do the same thing.

Let me know if you need more help.
