Question
QUESTION: Hi Salman, I have a Dell Axim X50v PDA that I would like to set up to be able to get on the internet wirelessly. I am a little confused about how I go about doing this. From what I can figure out, I think I need a wireless Compact Flash card or wireless Secure Digital card. This PDA also has Bluetooth capability. Do I in-fact need a wireless card, and how do I go about setting it up? Can you recommend any one in particular?

ANSWER: Dear Bob,

Your Dell Axim X50v has built in WLAN so no need of buying any SD/CF card.
Follow these steps to configure your WLAN connection

Get Wireless Connection IP Address i.e

(((Configure Settings at Desktop/Laptop Computer))))
1. Click Start - > Run.
2. Type in "cmd" and click Ok.
3. Type in "ipconfig /all" and press Enter.
4. Look for the wireless connection IP address

Note Wireless connction IP Address then,

Goto Control Panel> WLAN

a) At Wireless Networks create Network and Disable WEP and mark at Adhoc mode

b) Set TCP/IP protocol as under,
Example [IP Address 192.168.0.1
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 ]
use your address

c) At Wireless LAN Network Properties> Advance Tab

set "Cam when AC power = Enable"
"Network type= Adhoc"

d) At dialup or other connection settings go to connection settings> Advanced> at"Internet Connection Sharing" apply check to "allow othernetwork users to connect through this network connection" Click to set appropriate connection.

(((Configure Settings at Pocket PC))))
Click Start>Settings>connections and then "Dell WLAN utility"
click "Turn On"
you will see connection wizard will automatically connects you connection

QUESTION: Hi Salman.
I had trouble following your directions to set up my PDA. When I entered the "cmd" in "run" from the Start menu on the desktop, it took me to the DOS mode. After entering "ipconfig/all at the DOS prompt it didn't do anything. I don't have a wireless card or setup on my desktop. What I really want to do is be able to connect to the internet wirelessly through my PDA while I'm on the road. Is it possible to do that, and how do I go about doing it?

Answer
Dear,
Your earlier question was wrong. Your Dell Axim is not a Smart phone so thats mean you cannot use any Wireless carrier independently. You can only connect to internet by these three ways, i.e
1- Via Active sync your device in cradle with desktop or laptop computer which is connected with internet
2-Via Active sync your device with Bluetooth connection with desktop or laptop computer which has also blutooth dongle and then connect via bluetooth  with internet
3- Via Active sync your device  with Wireless lan and desktop or laptop computer which ha also WLan card installed in it then connect via WLAN  with internet

The difference between Bluetooth and WLAN is area of Wireless coverage . Bluetooth devices typical range is 10 meter but some new bluetooth dongle can cover 100 meter
and WLAN coverage area is 300 meters ,

The coverage area is effected by walls so reduced when used these devices inside the building

Now tell me how do you want to connet. kindly read your Dell Axim user mannual I think when you read the mannual then your question will be solved
