Panama/food allergies

Question
good morning.
I would like some information about typical food that we might encounter when we come to panama in April
I have a severe allergy to peanuts. of course I am careful about what i eat and will carry medication for this condition but still worry about what might be prepared alongside my own order in restaurants. i can't travel to southeast Asia (Thailand), for example, because of the prevalence of peanuts in the cooking cross contaminating everything else. how likely is it that a casual eater in Panama will encounter stray peanuts?

Answer
Hi Tim,
The odds of finding peanuts in Typical Panamenian food is almost as the same as me winning the lottery :)
A lot of food in Panama is fried and there is a lot of corn and rice found in the daily diet, but not peanuts.
Hope this helps, safe travel.

Expertise

I can answer questions regarding Panama, its people, culture, places to visit, places to watch out for, hotels to stay, how much your taxi fare should be... specific information on getting around on a safe manner.

Experience

I was born and raised in Panama, educated in American schools. Since I enjoy all related to Panama history, I try to keep myself updated on local happenings in the subject. I also enjoy traveling and the internet seems a wonderful tool to use, specially when you are your own guide (which I usually am)- so I am just willing to give some of the help I have received back.
