About Lorena Milanes
Expertise
I can answer questions regarding Panama, its people, culture, places to visit, places to watch out for, hotels to stay, how much your taxi fare should be... specific information on getting around on a safe manner.

Experience
I was born and raised in Panama, educated in American schools. Since I enjoy all related to Panama history, I try to keep myself updated on local happenings in the subject. I also enjoy traveling and the internet seems a wonderful tool to use, specially when you are your own guide (which I usually am)- so I am just willing to give some of the help I have received back.

Panama - Driving David to Bocas

Expert: Lorena Milanes - 5/20/2008

Question
We are a family of seven travelling over the holidays and think it will be less expensive to drive for our vacation.  I know you have mentioned some of this on a previous post, but can you tell me, is it possible to drive from David to Bocas?  How long will it take?  Are the roads ok?  We want to drive from Panama City to El Valle de Anton, then onto Chiriqui and David and Boquete, finally driving to Bocas and flying back to Panama City from there.  Are we crazy to do this, just to save $400 or $500?

Answer
Hi David,
I apologize for delay in reply I was out of the country and had very little access to email.
Answering your question, yes you can drive from David to Bocas, when in Bocas you will most likely have to park the car and take a boat. It all depends where you want to go.
The roads will be a little messier than usual as rainy season is kicking in.
In regards to how long it will take, depending on the roads, a max of 3-4 hours.
In regards to your drive from Panama, itīs not crazy, the roads are not so bad and you will encounter some nice sightseeing.
I have driven from Panama to David several times, it takes about 5 hours (if you have just one bathroom break :)
But, then again if you are all into being on vacation time is not an issue and I think it is worth the drive.
Have a great time.
LOrena
