Subject: moving FROM panama to US

Question
we want to take our Panama-purchased 2005 Nissan Frontier pickup back to
the US. is this possible? if we can't take it back, then what is the best way to
sell the vehicle without losing too much of our investment. we've been told
"yes, we can take the car" and "no we can't"... and the cost varies considerably
from mover to mover. we are confused.

moving to Panama offers one great service. we are forever indebted to mario
and karina of MoveToPanama who were (and still are) fabulous! no such
service seems to exist going the other way.

do you have resources for approximate cost of moving household goods for a
two bedroom home? and resources for how to get a vehicle to the US without
losing your mind?

thank you so very much

Answer
I would not take a car back to the US - your car here has European specs not American and this would make it a problem to sell in the US.

Also taxes here are higher than in the US - so if you would take your car to the US - you would pay entry taxes to the US - and your car would be worth considerably less than it currently is in Panama.

So my advice would be to sell it. I am an insurance broker so I know what I am talking about.

How to sell it - your car - the new value - is depreciated 20% the first year and 15% every other year. So do the depreciation and I would use classifieds such as La Prensa, Encuentra24.com, and the Visitor newspaper.

For your moving - I honestly do not have a clue. Contact Karla - she is a friend of mine and she does international moving - she is based of Miami and I am sure she could help you.

Good luck with the move!
