Expert: Ursula Kiener Date: 5/6/2008 Subject: shipping a few boxes
Question QUESTION: Hi Ursula, I am in the process of getting my pensionado visa, I have a temporary and waiting for permanent. I am in the states right now and want to just ship a few boxes of household good and a few tools. I am in North Carolina and was wondering if you know the cheapest way to send these few boxes? I am about 6 hours from Panama City where I live in Panama, if you could suggest something I would appreciate it...thanks
ANSWER: Hi Susan.
With the permanent you can ship $10,000 of household goods without paying entry taxes. I don't know if this applies under the temporary one. I am not a lawyer, but your lawyer should be able to tell you this.

Once in Panama - you say 6 hours I assume Chiriqui- I have an office in Boquete for insurnace and mortgages so I spend a lot of time in this area and I have actually helped clients move before.
We used Fletes Chavales and I have been using them since. The company is not fancy but it ships to anywhere in Chiriqui. From office to office is extremely cheap - I am talking about a couple of dollars. My client had like 7 big boxes and it was like $11 for all. And it is there the next day or same day (David).
They also deliver directly to your house.
Good luck with the move!

QUESTION: Thank you Ursula. I don't live in Ciriqui,I live in Los Santos out in Tonosi, do you know if Fletes Chavales delivers there and also do you have a telephone number for them? thanks again, Susan
Answer Hi Susan.
I called Fletes - they only have one route which is anything that passes between Panama and David and places in Chiriqui.
I called these people and they said they could move you to Tonosi.
It is random read that you live in Tonosi. I go to this area quite often, there is a great surf beach Cambutal near by and I bought property in Pedasi :)
