Expert: Ursula Kiener Date: 6/28/2008 Subject: going with motorhome to panama
Question we are travelling from canada but would like to avoid central america. is there a way via boat, ferry etc from anywhere in texas?
Answer Yes you can use a shipping company to take your motorhome to Panama. I brought my car from Miami to Panama (an SUV) and it cost me $500 in 2006. So calculate a little more because of the weight and the increase in gas - my estimates would be around $1,000 - which is not bad considering the gas to drive through Central America would be more.
Texas would be a good place to ship the car, since it is coastal.
Look for shipping companies and explain what you want to do. You can have the car in Panama for 3 months without getting your Panamanian tag and having to pay the entry taxes.
