About Lorena Milanes
Expertise
I can answer questions regarding Panama, its people, culture, places to visit, places to watch out for, hotels to stay, how much your taxi fare should be... specific information on getting around on a safe manner.

Experience
I was born and raised in Panama, educated in American schools. Since I enjoy all related to Panama history, I try to keep myself updated on local happenings in the subject. I also enjoy traveling and the internet seems a wonderful tool to use, specially when you are your own guide (which I usually am)- so I am just willing to give some of the help I have received back.

Question
Are there any flea markets or good used furniture stores in the city? I moved
here recently and need inexpensive home goods for my rental units.  Thanks,
Kurt

Answer
Hi Kurt,
In Panama there is ot much of a "flea market" / "thrift shop" culture.
There are a few I will mention, but please take note its not all the bargains I wish they were...

Bella Vista
COSAS, is located on the Via Espaņa close to the Hossana Church.
Itīs in an old apartment building called La Chiqui, they have old furniture, lamps, gadgets, but I have found interesting pieces here- you have to be patient and look around a lot, move things around and be aware that there is no air conditioning here and lots of dust.

El Carmen/Transistmica
There is a warehouse type store here where whey buy lots from the US stores, sometimes you can find good stuff here.
It is located diagonal to the Riba Smith Supermarket on Transistmica.

Casco Viejo
The first Sunday of each month there is a flea market in San Felipe, Casco Viejo.
Sometimes there is furniture, you never know I came across some interesting tables once.
They have old bottles, canal memorabilia, paintings, food, clothes... even if you donīt find anything itīs a nice way to end your week.

Amador Flea Market
This is located in the mid Amador section where you have restaurants such as the Wine Bar.
Its on weekends, mostly clothes, accessories, it is small but you never know what you will find.

Carrasquilla
Hindu run shop has used furniture, it is located diagonally from the Baptist Church and School. Itīs not that cheap, but you may find something.

Trastos
On your way to the interior - provinces there is a shop to the right side of the road. They carry some interesting things, but, beware . they will make a story for you in order to sell.

Good luck. Hope this helps.
Lorena
