Question We are moving to Panama and trying to decide if it is better to ship a car down from the USA or to buy one there? We want a 4x4 SUV type vehicle. If we buy one there, what kind of prices should we expect for a quality, secondhand SUV? Are there any complications for foreigners buying a vehicle in Panama?
Answer Hi Becky,
I usually recommend selling your car in the USA and buying a secondhand one here; prices are very comparable to those in the USA, there are plenty of cars available (the Japanese make 4x4 SUVs are a very popular choice), no complications for foreigners buying a car and far less red tape and bureaucracy than importing one! Unless you are very emotionally attached to your vehicle, in my opinion, it makes lots of sense selling it and buying one here!
Good Luck!
Diana
