Question
Dear Greg Pocha,
Through study and experience, have you considered the possible implications for people that pass, while under the influence of strong pain medications, (those hospitalized or receiving end of life services through Hospice)? If so, could share your thoughts about how this might impact this transitional event?

Thank you, Brie

Answer
Hello Brie,

Thank you for your patience in awaiting my reply. As stated I had an unexpected stay in the hospital.

What you ask is most interesting. If a person were of reasonable sane mind while not under the influence of medication then there is no reason for that medication to effect them when they are freed of their bodily boundaries. Although the meds may have altered the chemistry of the "brain", the "mind" is not influenced, based on the studies that the mind, the personality or soul, is separate from the body.

However if the deceased had developmental disabilities such as mental retardation or schizophrenia for examples in life, the transition may be a difficult one, as the "self" or psyche never had the chance to develop. Therefore the new realm may be very confusing to them. Those who had limited communication skills may express themselves physically by attacking a person or throwing objects about, and that may explain some poltergeist activity.

However, in a hospice especially, the overall expectation is for the person in care to pass on. Regardless of the state of mind of the dying, the guardians and pre-deceased family would have gathered to assist the deceased into the light. For example, the 1st Assistant Director of the Eidolon Project Canada works in a hospital. She has heard from those in Palliative Care units that on the odd occasion that the unit seems "busy" or crowded. Not from living staff being on ward, but rather from invisible entities who have come to take somebody over to the light.

I believe that a sound mind is not influenced by medications after the living soul has departed the dead shell it came in. Certainly, some initial confusion may be there, but that is quickly dispelled one the deceased receive information from their guardians. The guardians are always with us... no one dies alone.

I hope that this has helped clear up some concerns that you had. I am always available should you need more help.

Very warm regards,
Greg Pocha / All Experts
