Parenting K-6 Kids - 17 months old boy

Expert: Melinda Mantilla - 9/28/2006

Question
my 17months old son,Jacob is very agressive and screams when not happy.he is also hitting me with his toys or with his bare hand with no reasone.i love him so much but at the moment looking after him became a nightmer and its costing me lots of nerves.I don`t belive in slapping but my son is testing my patience. What am i doing wrong?!

Answer
Hi Edyta,

Sounds to me like what Jacob is going thru is completely normal!!! It is just a phase, but one that is hard. I recommend  time outs, and sometimes even toys need a time out too so if he continues hitting you, put him in time out, no longer than 1 minute as he's too young. Or simply take the toy away from him, that should work too!! Good luck!

Melinda
