Experience One desperate night after a very trying day, while raising three children four years apart, Debbie found herself in "Shock" with the behavior of her children and frustrated with her parenting skills. Question My 6 year old daughter is so good in all areas except listening. She ignores you until you have to yell or if you ask her to do something you have to tell her 3 or 4 times to remind her. She gets distracted very easy - but she is very book smart.
I have had her hearing tested so I know it is not that. We have now gotten a note home from the teacher saying she does not always listen when she is asked to do something. She is not a bad kid just this area has become an issue. I usally know the way to tackle discipline issues - but how do I handle disiplining her for not listening the first time she is asked to do something or is asked a question?

This behavior is typical and frustrating for all parents I know. I discovered that I like many parents had conditioned my child for that type of response as I tried an experiment for a reward system I was developing at that time in my life. I soon found that when I didn't do what I said I would do after the first warning, no one took me seriously until I started yelling the fourth time. This reward system I speak of was so amazing that after my children left home 10 or more years later, I wrote it down in book form. It is called FROM COMBAT ZONE TO LOVE AT HOME.
