Question My Mother was diagnosed with Parkinsons in 2004 (only 4 years ago). After taking various Parkinsons meds and going thru terrible hallucinations with each one she is now in bed, cannot move her arms or legs-can say a few words sometimes, not swallowing very well. It seems like most of the information I see, people do not advance to this stage for many years. Is it normal for her Parkinsonsn to have advanced this quickly? I am her caretaker and am taking care of her with help from Hospice. It just seems like nobody has a definite answer of anything and has not since she was first diagnosed. Just wondered if you have seen many advance this quickly? Thanks
Answer Hello Sheryl and thanks for writing,
I have not seen a patient with PD progress that quickly, but I have seen patients with similar diseases like Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) who were initially diagnosed with PD progress very quickly.
These disease are a challenge to accurately diagnose; perhaps you need to have your Mother assessed by a different Neurologist who specializes in PD & PSP.
