Question Hi. I have two cockatiels and four eggs. I have done a lot of research at this point and it seems to me that only one egg will hatch. It stated hatching yesterday. First I noticed the internal pip when i can hear it chirping and see it wiggling around. I left for about 3 or 4 hours and when I came home there were two holes in the egg. I could see into the egg a tiny bit, but there was no more chirping. Is this normal behavior for the chick to stop chirping during the actual hatching period? I have not heard any mroe chirps because when the mother sits on the egg it is very hard to hear. Do they sleep???
Answer It sounds like your clutch is "pipping". The parents should be helping in this process. Are they?
Is there still breathing going on in the egg? Movement?
They may still be ok - but you need to be prepared
It can take 24 hours or even up to 3 days to finish breaking out of the shell!
