Question QUESTION: My parrot started vomitting so i took it immediatley to the vet.
I just want to know is he going to die from crop infection?
the doctor says so far his fine, we took him in time?your urgent response pls?
thank you
Jackie
ANSWER: Your question just got to me - tell me more about what you're seeing when he vomits.
Is this a head pumping motion and then delivery of partially digested food, or is it a head shaking back and forth with a flinging of thick, sticky substance that ends up everywhere, including on the bird?
What did the doctor test for, if anything?
What do you generally feed?

but i just need a second opinion? is he gonna be okay if the doctor says so?what nuts can we give him for treats and can we give him orange juice?

jackie
Answer A head bobbing motion with delivery of a glob of food is regurgitation rather than vomiting, which is usually less of a health problem.
It can indicate an infection, but more often than not it's because the bird is acting submissive or in mating behavior. You might notice he does this to a certain object or while in the presence of a favorite person.
To stop it, when he begins, tell him 'no thank you' in a calm, flat voice and turn away from him until he stops. If it's to an object, remove it.
One of the possibilities when a bird does this is that they'll not get the nutrients they need - so it really needs to be discouraged.
You can give orange juice, but it's important to make it all natural, no sugar added - and mix it half and half with plain water.
Grape juice, apple juice, pineapple, pretty much all juice are good if they are strictly all natural and mixed half with water.
One of the better juices is carrot juice. This type you don't have to mix with water - and it's very good for them.
