Subject: 1st Birthday Party in a Restaurant - How to deal with unwanted wall hangings?

Question
Hi,

My goddaughter is turning one next month and I am helping with the party planning. Her parents have decided to host the party in a restaurant within a hotel. The restaurant has a closed off section at the back which they have reserved for the birthday, and while the lighting and everything else is OK, there are three rather large wall hangings (probably 4 to 5 feet tall, hung alongside each other on one wall) that would make the place a little tacky for the occasion.

I wanted to know if there are any inexpensive solutions to obscure or even better, totally hide the three hangings. We're doing a princess theme for the party, and the restaurant is totally cool with hanging anything on the wall. The ceiling is too high, though, so that's out of the question.

Thanks in advance!

Answer
I would get some sheers in whatever color compliments your theme and pull a piece of cord or fishing line through the upper section that the rod usually pulls through.  If you have mini Christmas lights with white cords I would drape them behind clipping them with safety pins at the top, dropping them again and clipping every 12 to 18 inches depending on how much cord you have.  The lights will distract the eye and they are princess pretty.  The sheers are ethereal.  Cascade the sheers over the wall hangings you want to hide.  Maybe even hang a few random stars at different levels on top of them.  We've done some absolutely gorgeous grad photos with sheers overlaying white mini lights.
