Question
Hi John, i want to have a party for my 40th and here are my concerns:  i don't want to have it at home; I don't want it to break the bank; i want something fun; myhusband and I share the same b'day, he's an introvert and I'm an extrovert.  Any suggestions?

Answer
Hi Sonya

It's so hard to suggest venues when I know nothing about you and your lifestyle, tastes atc. Worse ... I have no idea where in the world you are and what's available.

Here's some observations though on your comments:

As you are an extrovert, you'd be well at home in a situation where you play the party hostess, mixing and mingling. So .. somewhere where friends and family can gather and mix freely.

As he is not like this, he shouldn't be put in a situation where that is necessary or expected. Somewhere where groups get together and cross mixing is not perhaps even possible, and he can be with people he's most relaxed with without pressures.

What will put the price up is a large party in a venue (whether hotel or restaurant) .... so... keep it small and hire just venue space and arrange your own catering. That way you can do it yourself or get competitive quotes from local organisations.

Finally .... as well as as some musice (from the 70s, 80s, 90s etc to get you all in the mood, hire someone like a close-up magician who can mix and mingle with guests and break the ice for you and provide live entertainment so you don't have to. If they also do a show later, they can choose you to help (and show off!) and not pick your partner.

If you are in the UK and want more help with venues and perfromers ... just ask.
