Question QUESTION: I'm turning 16 in March and I need ideas of what to do for my party. I'm only having about 6 people over and I don't want to spend very much money. The only things to do in this town are bowling and shopping and going to movies. I want something special that I will remember. What would you suggest?
ANSWER: Hi Rosalie
It's hard if not impossible to help without knowing more.
You say that there are only 3 things to do in your town ... but I have no idea where that is. I bet there are many many more but you need some inspiration to make use of them.
You say you want something special ... it's having a relaxed or energetic time (as you choose) with close friends that will make it that. Be sure to capture it on camera (stills or movie) for sure.
Here's some ideas of other parties I know friends, clients and others have had:
1) A cook-in. Divide up and each group cook or prepare a course each. Decide in advance so you can research recipes and get the ingredients. This can be a simple or complex, cheap or otherwise as you need it to be. Really good fun, laugh and cheap way of having a great time.
2) Have a pamper evening. Everyone brings something to share with the others. These could range from massages, temporary tattoos, nail decoration, hair colors, hair brading, make-up, etc etc .... if there are guys, then grooming or hand massage, nai; treatments etc etc.
3) Does someone own a DVD or Video camera. OK .... shoot a movie. Call it 'Rosalie's Birthday Surprise' or something. Then .... all get involved and give tasks ie Director, Script writers, caption board artist, Camera person etc etc.... brief in advance so the guests can bring ideas, clothes, props etc etc
There .... 3 ideas that'l cost little and can be a memorable scream.
You may not go for these, but they may give you other ideas of the zillions of things you can do in your own place without going out to the cinema, bowling, mall or restaurants.
I HOPE this helps .... write to me again if you want any of these ideas expanding ... and "Happy Birthday" ... it's mine tomorrow, Valentine's Day!

QUESTION: Thanks for your reply. You said you needed more information...i live in west lafayette, indiana. I am having 6 girls come. I know people who have decorated pillow cases or shirts. If you have any suggestions like that i would like to hear them. I need fun activities that won't require a lot of preparation or attention (my friends don't like to do the same thing for too long). Any more suggestions would be great.
Answer Roaslie
I'd have thought that the expense of loads of pillow cases and the special fabric paint etc would have been too much for you.
So here's what you do:
Get together with the people you'll invite and discuss it with them. You'll come up with some great ideas. Nobody will agree to all of them but here's how to deal with that.
Take the party time (say 3 hours) and divide it up ... that's 30 minutes for each of 6 guests. Then you do their chosen activity for 30 muintes .... and they are responsible for organising their bit ... getting the stuff, running it on the night.
You could even run it like a competition and at the end score points for each activity .... and the winner gets a prize.
That way you do nothing for too long and there's more fun stuff coming up soon!
