Question hi I'm turning 18 soon and I've been wanting to do a masquerade theme party. But the more I've thought about it, i don't want the hassle of a big expensive party. One idea of mine was to go out with like 20 friends to a hookah bar all dressed up and with masquerade masks on. I really want to keep with the masquerade theme, maybe go to a movie too. Anyhow, i was just wondering if you had any tips, small fun details to add, and/or a place that would be nice to have this at. thanks so much!
Answer It's not clear whether your party will be all girls or mixed.
I love the idea of a masquerade theme and since you'll probably be dressed up, some kind of lounge would be great. I've been to a couple in Toronto over the years that had live music and dancing in almost a ballroom type setting, except for the space was more intimate than a large ballroom.
If you wanted to add a surprise for your friends you could arrange ahead for the establishment to serve a special drink in keeping with the theme. Make up a fun name for it, try and have them whip up something with an unusual color or flavor and even try and get or make some stir sticks with masks on them for the drinks.
Maybe instead of a movie, live theater or a comedy club would suit the theme better (depends what you and your friends like). I'm not sure if there is anything like that around where you live. It would be especially fun if there were some kind of theater club that had some platform for amateur dramatic performances (kind of like a karaoke bar would be for singers). I've seen them before though I don't think there are a lot of them around. Volunteers have to act out a scene from a movie (using teleprompter help of course) or other such dramatic exercises. It's fun if you like that sort of thing!
