Question
QUESTION: We are planning an adoption finalization party this summer fr our two foster kids whom we will be adopting (finally!)  They have been with us since January 2006 and are currently 4 and 2 years old, a boy and a girl.  I have no idea where to purchase announcements and/or invitations and what kind of party to do.  I am expecting about 30-60 people including kids, and we live in Montana.

ANSWER: Cristi:

This is a celebration!  It can be just like a birthday party with balloons, festive decor and activities for children and adults alike. You could have a theme if the children have a favorite character or colors, etc.

As for an invitation, you are best off having someone, if not yourself, create a nice bright and happy piece on the computer...perhaps including a photo of the children.

Just have fun with the planning and you will have fun with the party.

I hope this has been helpful to you.

Congratulations on this very happy occasion.

QUESTION: Hi Patty,

Thanks for your response.  Do you think it would be appropriate then to hold a BBQ at a local park that has a large covered picnic area, children's activities (swings, fort, water splash park, etc) and restrooms?  And would it be appropriate to have people bring dishes potluck style with us supplying hamburgers, chicken and hotdogs?  Or should be be supplying everything?

My teen is thinking that a star or heaven theme would be nice because these kids truly are miracles from heaven.  Suggestions on where to buy party supplies??????

Thanks,
Christi

Answer
Christi:

The park would be fine, in fact quite good.

Following a star theme would be cute and those products are available at a variety of sites on-line, many listed on our site at http://www.partyplansplus.com/themes.htm

As far as asking for pot luck dishes...I am sure that your closest friends and relatives will offer.  Take them up on it and that should fill out your menu.  For people less close I would just tell them, 'it is pretty much in place."

Enjoy!
