Question QUESTION: I am planning my brother's college graduation party for this summer. He majored in Journalism with a minor in French. I was planning on making the invitations to resemble a front page of a newspaper, but I would love to get some more ideas for the party itself. Thank you!
ANSWER: Heather
Great idea .... love to help more as I am already buzzing with ideas ...lots.
BUT .... tell me more about the event so I recommend right things.
ie
Where will it be?
What kind of party ?lunch, sit down, evening banquet etc
How many guests ie what size?
What kind of venue? Club, at home, marquee, hotel, riverboat, zoo ....?
Then I can get closer to ideas that will work.
Looking forward to your reply ...

QUESTION: It will be at my parents newly-renovated home in Dayton, Ohio. It will be during the middle of the day (probably 12-4pm) on a Sunday in June. We will invite roughly 100 guests, but since it's four hours longs, guests will come and go as they please.
Answer Hi
Thanks for the additional info. I still don't have any info re what you plan for them to do so cannot add ideas for food or music etc. However that'll be easy with your theme.
As journalism covers such a range of topics, I'd carry on the newspaper and magazine them throughout. Here's brief notes as inspiration:
=> use classic symbols ie spiral notepad and pen or pencil, interview mike and press pass as graphic symbols perhaps as signs, or table center pieces, food flags etc
=> Just as newspapers are divided into politics, sport, local news, women's interests, motoring etc you could use these as a basis for people to give short speeches. Give each person (perhaps 6 or so) the task of writing about him with a slant on each category. In other words, they become a reported and your brother is the news. They'll deliver a short piece like a news report on TV.
=> You'll need to set this at a time or few times throughout the event when suitable people are there. Perhaps have a quick music 'sting' that signals a 'report just in'.
=> Clearly these topics and reports must be based on the past, stories and hobbies etc of your brother.
I think that with some good refreshments and continued news reports at frequent intervals (perhaps every 20 - 30 minutes or so) it will be a fitting tribute and celebration.
