Question
QUESTION: Hi. My name is Kassidy Beckstrand. I am planning a boy/girl party and it will be my going-away party because i am moving. there will be about 20 people there and it will be in a park. There will be about 3 or 4 couples there and lots of single kids!!! (by-the-way I'm 14!) All i know is i want to have music, but i dont know what to do about games or food or anything of that sort. HELP!!! Any ideas???

ANSWER: Kassidy

It sounds fun whatever you do.

It's hard to be specific as I have no idea where you are and what the people or weather or location will be like. Clearly a park in Australia is very different from one in Iceland and the requirements too!

When you say "kids" ... are they all around 14 years?

How long will it last and at what time of day?

Have you got permission to a) hold a party there and b) especially, to play music? You may need to. Check your local laws.

Let me know some more info and I'll come up with some games ideas.

QUESTION: Yes we are all 14 years old. It will be from 5:00-10:00 pm. We have permission to have the party and to play music as long as its not blasting. Do u think u can help me????

Answer
Hi again

Firstly, I think 5 hours is a long time .... unless you have the period broken into sections.

What would happen at a traditional event is that there would be perhaps:

reception (arrival) period

sit for food / drink
or stand if buffet style event or BBQ

after eating, continues mingling or dancing

or a cabaret before or during this

or perhaps something like gaming tables or other
static entertainment

In other words it's carved up into three main sections:
1) Arrival, greetings - perhaps 45 - 60 minutes
2) Main eating period - perhaps 90 - 120 minutes
3) After meal dancing, drinkinking, entertainment section - 90 mins - 120 mins

So...here's what I suggest:
1) You don't need to do much in this period. people are happy to arrive, chat, welcome, circulate etc etc. Some background music may be good. Just have some suitable liquid repfreshment available.

2) People WILL ge5t hungry across that period and so inrtroducing something to eat at this stage gives a real lift, and that's all you'll need here. Exactly what you DO have will depend upon your budget, tastes etc etc. Obviosuly cold may be easier unless you want to get involved with a BBQ or have it delivered (takeaway Pizzas!).
I entertained at a park party last summer and they had a Thai Restaurant deliver and spread it all out on low tables ... it was fab!

3) This will be your tricky area needing some entertainment or amusements to change the dynamics, the focus and perhaps get people circulating more. I have no idea what kind of games you may like but there are dozens suitable for situations like this. These range from Charades, Feelies, Murder Mysteries, X-Factor Contests etc etc etc. There are great resources on the internet and I'd go and search for some. It WILL need someone to take charge of these ie be a Gamesmaster or it will be a shambles. If you play music, I'd have some kit that allows a mike to be plugged in and then used for games organising.

Think that's all I can say this time .... more questions?

Kassidy

You've just given me a poor rating and I don't understand why.

You said: >> i dont know what to do about games or food or anything << and I gave you information. I also said: >> .... more questions?
Write again. << but heard no more.

What do you need to know? How could I help more and get 10 ratings ... it's what I try to do but the quality of the answers will depend upon the quality of your questions.
