Question
Hello, we're going to Palm Springs for my boyfriends birthday and I wanted to use the hotels pool and cabana to host a little party for him and his friends. I needed ideas on how to make it look and feel like a Vegas pool party...Please help I can't think of anything.

Answer
What a great idea!  After all, home entertaining shouldn't be confined to just your home.

The cache of the Vegas pool scene often comes from their lush decor.  Trying to replicate it would likely be impractical and cost prohibitive.  Instead, go for a party vibe through music.  I-pods make music more portable than ever.  So think about the vibe you want to create and come up with a song list that will firmly establish it.  Consider how your party will transition through the day and come up with songs to match it.

Also consider your guests' needs.  The hotel will provide the towels and chairs, but you can stock a small cooler with sunscreen, Evian misters, and plenty of water.

Take some time to let the hotel staff know you're celebrating and see if they'll design a signature cocktail list to offer.  What's your boyfriend's favorite cocktail?  Can you come up with a fun name for it?  You'll be in Palm Springs, so serve a Seabreeze, but call it a Palm Springs' Breeze.  You get the idea.

Enjoy your party!

Salut!
