Subject: Theme for Gala Blacktie Fundraising Dinner

Question
I work for a university that is celebrating its 60th anniversary. I know this is represented by the diamond, so I know the theme and decor should be reflective of this. I am a bit stuck there. Do you have any ideas or suggestions that can be done. It will be a red carpet affair, therefore very elegant and upscale. Can you help?
Thanks

Answer
Hi Renata

I did send a response to this but it appears to have not been logged and I have just received a reminder. It was pretty detailed but I now don't have the notes and web links, but here's the outline:

=> If you research on the internet you'll find lots of fascinating facts (or should that be facet-nating!) about diamonds. I found this a while ago when I was engaged to be involved in a party for people in Antwerp, one of the World's important Diamond areas.

There is some interesting facts ranging from terminology, history, diamond stories, thefts, uses in manufacturing and drilling industries etc etc.

There are also different names of types of diamond, stages in diamond cut and polishing etc etc.

Some famous diamonds ie the koh-in-nor(?) etc and famous people and diamonds (Liz Taylor, Shirley BAssey) and music using it as a theme (Diamonds Are Forever) and of course Movies.

SO WHAT?

Well, this provides a wealth of theming info that you can us to name tables, provide color themes for each table, have info on hanging banners to be read during receoption, have a a quiz or just info to be read on tent cards .... etc.

I am sure any florist you have will delight at the theme brief and creatively use things like screwed up transparent foil in the glass cubes displaying the silvery floral arrangements.

I am not sure where you are stuck for ideas ... write again with any areas that may be left uninspired....
