Question Hi,
My son's wedding is this weekend. The bride wants appetizers, cake, punch, coffee and tea served. We plan on 150 guests at 3:00pm. The reception should last about 2 hours. I have read that I should plan on 4-6 appetizers per guest per hour. We will be making our own trays. The menu is fresh fruit, cubed cheese, summer sausage and crackers, cheese slices with crackers, deviled eggs, party mix, assortment of pretzels and assorted nuts. What amounts of each should there be? Many Thanks.
Answer Dear Sonia:
Since my expertise doesn't really include catering information (As a planner I would always confer with a caterer to determine quantities, but never became an expert) I have a few links that I go to for assistance.
I am sure you will find just the right help for your question. Sounds like you have a very nice menu going here, perfect for a wedding reception--I doubt it will last only 2 hours, though, I would plan for at least 3. Links for determining food quantities:
The reason that I suggest 3 hours is that a group of that size will rarely get fed comfortably in that time, even if they all show up at 2 p.m. on the dot. A reception lasting only 2 hours would serve punch, cake and coffee, nuts and mints, etc. at most.
