Party Planning/Wedding reception

Question
My daughter is engaged & we are planning a reception for 200-250 people.  We will probably have it at Lillie Belle's in Franklin, TN.  Monell's restaurant is located there, so they do the food.  Wedding is at 2:30pm May 1st 2010.  She wants hors d'oeuvres and desserts, plus cake.  How much food should we have?  How many hors d'oeuvres & how many desserts?  How can we keep the costs down?  And, how much wine & beer?  Sorry, so many questions.  I am overwhelmed with the costs for weddings!

Answer
Martha Ann:

Since you are having a caterer in the plan it would be advisable to get her/his expert opinion of the quantities you will need both food and beverage.  In your meeting with her/him you can share the make=up of your guest list--adults, children, age range, known drinkers, etc.  They should be able to guide you through the process of selecting the items and deciding upon the quantities.

I, as a planner, always pin my hopes on the expertise of the caterer.

Best of luck to you and congratulations.
