Anything about planning parties for weddings, showers, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, retirements, bar/bat mitzvahs, business promotions, fund raisers, and civic events. If I cannot answer I will direct you to the answer. I am not an expert in children or teen parties. There are hundreds of sites that specialize in that information if you google "kids parties" you will find an amazing amount of bright ideas. We do have a page on our site that leads to al the different kid's party themes, however. http://www.partyplansplus.com/themes.htm Not for those seeking information about party/event planning as a career. That information is found on the internet under "event planning careers" or at our site www.partyplansplus.com/started.htm

Party Planning - 55th surprise bday party

Expert: Patty Sachs - 4/22/2009

Question
I am having a surprise birthday party for my mom 2 weeks before her actual birthday and i was wondering if 2-3 weeks before the party is a good time to get the invitations out or do i need to give the guest more notice? And also i am having the hardest time coming up with a color scheme for her 55th do you have any good suggestions? Thank you:)

Answer
Dear Tracey:

Pardon the delay in answering...

3 weeks is fine for in-town folks, especially if it is on a Saturday. but if you want special people that live out of town...the longer the better. In fact, a phone call or e-mail to key people further ahead wouldn't be out of line.  They need to make travel arrangements, etc.

As far as colors, I would use her favorites...if you need to be reminded just look around her house and in her closet.  Her choice of colors can be easily detected that way.  On the other hand you can go "celebration" colors of hot pink, teal, purple, that just shout out festivity for anyone no matter what there favorites.

Or you can follow her personality...if I were to plan a party for my sister--it would be pastels, since she is a soft-spoken, serene, gentle person...etc. Black and white would work for a dramatic and theatrical-type person.

Or if she has traveled to and loved a destination that has certain colors associated like Hawaii, the Orient, Beachside, or Nature-sites like a park or camping setting.  They all have a color scheme.

I hope that has helped you in your decisions.

Have a great party and try to enjoy the planning as your own little pre-party.

Sincerely,

Patty Sachs
