Expertise
Anything about planning parties for weddings, showers, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, retirements, bar/bat mitzvahs, business promotions, fund raisers, and civic events. If I cannot answer I will direct you to the answer. I am not an expert in children or teen parties. There are hundreds of sites that specialize in that information if you google "kids parties" you will find an amazing amount of bright ideas. We do have a page on our site that leads to al the different kid's party themes, however. http://www.partyplansplus.com/themes.htm Not for those seeking information about party/event planning as a career. That information is found on the internet under "event planning careers" or at our site www.partyplansplus.com/started.htm

Question
I am  pulling together a birthday party for my dad who is 86 years old.  My oldest brother is cooking homemade lasagna and meatballs (we are italian). My guess is that the lasagna and meatballs probably won't be enough. The total guest list is 23. I planned on a cold cut tray, home made baked means, olive pickle planner, veggies and dip, fresh fruit (pineapple and strawberries) birthday cake and bvgs. I am really stuck the cold cut platter.  I wam planning 4 types of meat (ham, turkey, roast beef and salami) and 3 types of cheeses (swiss, provolone and american). Knowing the rest of the spread, and planning on putting the cold cut platter together myself, how much meat and cheese should be purchsed?  Also, should I add something to this list??

Answer
Dear Debbie:

It sounds like you have a good handle on the food choices--lots of variety.

Since I am an overall planner I have not become an expert in the catering area, rather relying on my hired caterer for that advice.  However, I am including a list of great sites to determine quantities when you are doing your own catering.  I refer hosts to it often for tips.

I am sure you will find your answer in this mix.

Have a wonderful party and good luck with your menu.
