Party Planning/Anniversary Party

Question
My brother and I are throwing our parents a surprise anniversary party.  It's going to be casual, hang by the pool, have some drinks on a Sunday afternoon, etc...  At a maximum we're expecting 50 people.  I'm at a loss for how much food needs to be fixed!  The party begins at 3:00, so I know people aren't expecting a sit-down feast.  But the party may go well into the night so I want to make sure we have plenty to last.  Help!

Answer
Dear Natalie:

If you include the words "light appetizers" or "light buffet" on the invitation, your guests will know what to expect...or what not to expect.  Be sure to select menu items that "keep" if you want to serve them throughout the event--items that stay crisp or fresh-looking. On a warm day, for instance, cheese changes it's appearance.

Since I am an overall planner I have not become an expert in the catering area, rather relying on my hired caterers for that advice.  However, I am including a list of great sites to determine quantities when you are doing your own catering.  I refer hosts to it often for tips.

I am sure you will find your answer in this mix.

Have a wonderful party and good luck with your menu.
