Expertise
Anything about planning parties for weddings, showers, birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, retirements, bar/bat mitzvahs, business promotions, fund raisers, and civic events. If I cannot answer I will direct you to the answer. I am not an expert in children or teen parties. There are hundreds of sites that specialize in that information if you google "kids parties" you will find an amazing amount of bright ideas. We do have a page on our site that leads to al the different kid's party themes, however. http://www.partyplansplus.com/themes.htm Not for those seeking information about party/event planning as a career. That information is found on the internet under "event planning careers" or at our site www.partyplansplus.com/started.htm

Party Planning - Middle School Academic Achievement Banquet

Expert: Patty Sachs - 5/5/2009

Question
I am in charge of decorating our school's Honor's Banquet for grades 6 through 8.  The banquet will be held at the beginning of June. The colors of the school are red, white and blue.  Any suggestions on table centerpieces and how to recognize each student for their academic achievements?

Answer
Dear Bridgette:

Sounds like a nice event developing here.  The patriotic colors make a great exciting decor theme and very easy to find any where from party stores, the Internet, in garages and attics of the parents and even in the school storerooms.

I suggest a container of some sort, can be vases, boxes, etc-- spray painted to match, need not be the same shape. They will be holding bright and fluffy tissue paper flowers in red/white/blue perhaps with streaming balloons above.  Easy, dramatic, very inexpensive and a fun project for the arts and crafts committee.

The way you could feature each child in the centerpieces is to create small white flag/banners on a stick with their small photo and names written on them, perhaps to serve as seating assignments.  In other words, if three children and their families are at a table, those names would be on the small white flags.

If you do not have seating assignments then you could just spread the flags throughout the centerpieces...so that all are featured.

You could also write the names of the honorees on balloons and use a few floating above each centerpieces.

For the stage or podium area you could do a balloon arch with the photos and names attached/painted on the balloons.

I know that you are on a limited budget for an event of this type so I have suggested things that are economical, while still making an impact of festivity and beauty.

I hope this has helped.

We do have some neat ideas for the Patriotic parties on our site.
www.partyplansplus.com --enter "patriotic" in the search on that page.

Best of luck to you and congratulations on your honoree.
