Party Planning - 5th Birthday Party Verbiage

Expert: Wendy Legendre - 6/2/2009

Question
My son is all about a dragon birthday theme since he saw a dragon pinata. I
need help putting together the invitation verbiage. I am very impressed with
the reptile party you did. His party will be at our house, from 1-3 with cake,
snacks, the pinata and possibly a scavenger hunt. Since I am not sure if
parents stay for a 5th birthday party or not I don't know how to word this and
I am unsure as to how many to invite, his whole pre K class, the entire
neighborhood of kids his age.. help, this could be a huge mess and I would
like to keep it simple as we will have family from out of town for the party
and we will be coming back from a 3 week vacation 2 weeks prior to his
birthday. Thank you so much!!

Answer
Hi Kristin!

WOW!  How many 5 year olds does your son's pre-school class and the community include?  If it's a lot, you'll definitely need some help, especially for the scavenger hunt.  Of course, how much help depends on what kind of scavenger hunt, but regardless, with everything else you'll need to take care of you'll want to invite the parents OR have a few helpers on hand that are good with young children.

P.S. In my experience parents don't stay unless they are asked to, but that might vary from location to location.  They tend to use that time to go shopping, relax, etc. If you want them there, you may want to include that in the invite.

I can certainly help you with the poem for your invitation.  Sounds like you have most of the party organized so it shouldn't be too difficult.  Could you give me your son's first name so I can work it into the invite?
