Party Planning - 37th Surprise Birthday party

Expert: Aidan Heritage - 9/4/2009

Question
Having a surprise birthday party for my wife, I am going to supply coffee, appetizers, sangria, and cake, how do I word the invite that they will have to pay for their own meals and drinks?

Answer
I always think it's important to be clear, so something along the lines of "You buy the meal, I provide the cake!" will be fine - I would set expectations such that they expect to pay for pretty much everything - if they then find some things are being provided by you and they pay less than they budgeted for it's unlikely to be a problem!
