About Mary Lee Ferrin
Expertise
I can answer any questions about hosting or participating in a murder mystery party.

Experience
I have been hosting murder mystery parties for 9 years. I owned a murder mystery dinner theater for a year. 4 years ago I started writing my own murder mystery parties and began selling them on the web. Within weeks I had to choose between my dinner theater and my party kit site. I just could not do both. I love writing so I choose to continue this and I have never looked back. My site Dinner and a Murder Mystery Games is one of the largest most authorative web sites on the web relating to murder mystery parties. I have an extensive forum in which I answer murder mystery questions. I also write articles. http://www.dinnerandamurder.co

Party Planning - cheese and crackers for 75 - 100 people

Expert: Mary Lee Ferrin - 9/11/2009

Question
We are holding registration at our curling club on Monday afternoon from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.   We are just serving cheese and crackers and would appreciate advice on amount to buy in cheese and in crackers.  There will be wine served.  This is just a social get-together. Thankyou.

Answer
Hello Anne,

Here is what you should have for 100, just to be on the safe side:

6 pounds small crackers in a variety of types.

For Cheese you need 3-4 ounces per person, 20-25 pounds total, using at least 3-4 kinds.
Part can be cheese logs or spread. You can provide a selection of fine cheeses on a cheese plate, accompanied by knives or forks for firm cheeses and a spreading knife and bread for softer cheeses. Try to pair the cheese with the types of wines you are serving. If you can, find cheeses from the same regions as the wines. Short of that, try to choose more mild flavored cheeses with lighter wines and richer, more pungent cheeses with more full-flavored wines. While very rich, pungent or stinky cheeses can be delicious with rich wines, their strong aroma may detract from being able to appreciate the subtleties of the wines at the tasting. Serve cheese at room temp

You might also consider some nuts and cured olives, being sure to avoid spicy or salty ones. In fact, many nuts accompany cheeses beautifully and are neutral flavored enough to accompany many wines. Spanish Marcona almonds and walnuts are great choices

I hope this helps!
