Question
QUESTION: We want to do something special for my Dad but we need ideas..maybe something small.  We recently had a surprise 50th wedding anniversary for my folks and their close friends were all invited.  We don't want to do anything similar.  The only thing I can think of that is special to my Dad himself is inviting his army buddies (he's been in touch with them lately and they weren't at the anniv. party).  But that's not enough.  We could put an album together (read this earlier) with friends' and family's comments on their favorite memories, but still not enough.  How do we tie it all together yet keep it simple?  Dad is a bit hard of hearing too but very emotional and appreciative of so many things. HELP!

ANSWER: Oh dear ... I wrote a long answer to this a while ago but it seems to still be here. Did you get any reply at all?

Was it the album idea I created you referred to? I'm not sure why that wouldn't be enough ... as it doesn't only necessarily remain as an album but also can become a live event.

Cntributors can stand up at intervals and recite, speak, sing and recount memories and these can also then be recorded and enclosed as a CD in a pocket in the back.

Parts ie performances can be videod and burnt to DVD and enclosed too.

The 'book' is precisely what you ask for ... a brilliant flexible vehicle for tying it all together (just like they did on This Is Your Life on TV).

The ideas really is as big or as small as you make it.

Other than that .... I don't know. If not inspired, tell me why this is not enough ... and I can try again ... but I think the answer is there somewhere ... with some adaptation.

QUESTION: Thanks so much for your reply.  The only reason I thought the book wasn't enough is because I was thinking of doing that in lieu of a party and maybe just have a small gathering with immediately family.

Answer
Hi

IO understand ... but I have used the idea and many variations on many many occasions and it can become big enough to fill a theatre. I nwo ... I've dome it taht way.

I actually produced live people - surprise guests - from the pages of the 7' high book!

Good luck with whatever you choose to do, I asm cdertain that it will be great.
