Question
QUESTION:
Hi, My 3YO son's CBC with Platelet count lab test result has the following:

Basophil: 0.03
Atypical Lymphocyte: 0.01
RBC Morphology: Normocytic normochromic

Can you help me understand what this means please?

Thank you so much!

ANSWER: Hello Donabel:

Basophil and atypical lymphocytes are type of white blood cells  seen in the blood. Both are within normal range.
The RBC morphology deals with the appearance - shape and size of the red blood cells. These too are normal (normocytic - normal size and shape and normochromic - with adequate hemoglobin)

There is nothing to cause undue concern in these results.

QUESTION: Hello Dr, this is totally different lab result this time. I hope you could help me understand it.

This is my 59YO Father's Lab Result

FBS: 6.40 H
Serum Creatinin: 314.00 H
Direct HDL: 0.40 L

We are particularly concerned about the Serum Creatinin result, is this something that we need to worry about?

Thank you!

Answer
Hello Donabel:

Creatinine is a breakdown product of creatine, which is an important part of muscle.

Increased levels indicate that there is some  form of disease of the kidney.
Your father should be evaluated by a doctor preferably a nephrologist.
