Pathology - CBC Result

Expert: Neha Dahiya MD - 7/9/2009

Question
I was wondering, my CBC was completely normal EXCEPT absolute lymphocytes were very low like 570 when normal was 800 something and above.  What does that mean?

Answer
Hello Jill:

All the CBC values have a normal range which is arrived at as an average of a set of values obtained from a given normal population.

There are people who would fall outside the range. If you are otherwise healthy and this was done for a routine health check up, I would not worry.

If on a subsequent tests it drops further and you have some infection / fever / weakness etc please contact a physician for further evaluation.
