Pathology - Dr.Dahiya I have questions regarding next steps with what tests should be run following this lab work

Expert: Neha Dahiya MD - 8/21/2009

Question
I am a 56 year old female I have started 2 weeks ago with some nausea and bloating and with past history of diverticulosis, went to family doctor(my primary care regular Dr was not in saw a partner) who did not run lab at that time, just started me on antibiotics, a week later I was not better so went in for lab, my regular doctor ran lab, by this time, pain was localized in upper right quadrant, radiating to back, and occasionally sharp, but no vomiting, low grade temp (occasional), labs came back with amylase 61, wbc 13.9, and lipase 308.9, other than this lab I have not have any other test run. I am currently taking a second round of antibiotic, and concerned with wbc elevated. I also thought if I have pancreatitis both the amylase and the lipase would be elevated.
Could I be recovering from pancreatitis due to the antibiotic treatment?

Answer
Hello Christine:

I apologize for the delay in answering, due to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to attend to your question.

yes it is possible that you may have had a bout of pancreatitis. However since there are no baseline (first time around) levels of amylase its difficult to say how the progress is of the disease.
