If my brother's prostrate cancer is grade 5 and gleason 7, why are they giving him hormonal treatment monitored for 3 months instead of Radium

My husband's prostate biopsy revealed a Gleason 7. He is 67 years old.  His urologist explained the pros and cons of surgery and radiation therapy.  According to the urologist the rate of success is the same for both radiation and surgical with a possibility of more side effects from surgery.  The success rate for Gleason 7 (with Stage 1 cancer) is between 90 and 98 per cent(according the my husband's urologist).
