Question what is the meaning behind the avocado on one of pearl jams most recent albums?? I've searched everywhere and only found arguments about its "pointless" appearance...

That's a good question. I haven't been able to find an "official" meaning for the Avocado either.
Fans have some different theories. Some think that it is related to the "Avocado Declaration" from the Green Party and Pearl Jam's promise to do their part for the environment. "Green on the inside, green on the outside", You can read about it at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avocado_Declaration
One fan said he read an interview with Mike McCready, where Eddie was getting pissed off about the artwork, and basically said "I don't care if you put a f**king avocado on it!", and someone made up the cover as a joke and they kept it.
--However, I couldn't find a copy of this interview anywhere, so I'm not sure that it actually happened.
